Explain this to me...

So the wedding shower was today. It seemed to go smoothly enough. But here's the rub: Apparently we're not allowed to use any of the gifts we recieved until after the wedding. So now half our basement is full of perfectly good appliances, untensils, and dishes which we aren't supposed touch for over TWO MONTHS! Does this sound strange to anyone else?

Spore!

At least we have the creature editor to hold us over until the game comes out

spore.com

For what I'm talking about:

Why pyramid schemes don't work...

The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions
about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their
names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve
been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know
when you’ve posted your answer.

1) What was I doing 10 years ago?
Let's see 25-10 = 15. Sophomore year of High School. Probably hanging out with Brunk in the student union playing Connect Four. Err... guess it would be Summer then. Taking Summer classes at HPHS. Etymology (made sure this wasn't the bug one) with Karuna. Consumer Economics with Jeff and Jenkins. Trading god damn Pokemon during the break.
Working nights at the pool concession stand.

2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today?

It's already 6PM, so it's going to get retroactive
1. Work: Doing my work thing. Phones, emails and whatever else I can wedge in there.
2. Pick up window washing fluid: My tank's been dry for the last couple of days.
3. Go to the gym: No school means no excuses. Melissa and Daniel aren't getting back until later. If my dad's going to brag about his double digit weight loss, I might as well try.
4. Family Time: Board games? Wii? Movie? Whatever Daniel's in the mood for I guess. It's like I have responsabilities or something!
5. Arrested Development: It's become a Thing at our house now to watch some before bed. We've been plowing through these faster than our other attempts and doing a whole series. Home Movies fizzled out for ussometime during the second season, and I don't think we even made it through the third disc of X-Files Season 1. With Battlestar missing in action untill who knows when, we gotta keep busy, ya know.

3) Snacks I enjoy:
Fruit pectin candy: Some scientist has to figure out a way to take those fruit slices and make it into a whole fruit. Maybe through a jawbreaker pit in there for realism?
Pistachios: Used to eat them back in college. Not so much anymore
Regular fruit: Whenever we buy fruit, I always forget that we have it and it goes to waste.

4) Places I have lived:
(In chronological order):
0-2: Buffalo Grove, IL - Don't remember a damn thing
2-18: Deerfield, IL - The big ol' house. Parents are moving sometime in the next year. I'm sure it'll be torn down to make another mini-mansion. Where does the drainage go? Who knows? Who cares?
College Years:
18-20: Illini Towers - People may have called me a stuffy Jew, but damn if I wasn't a stuffy Jew with a semi-private bathroom.
20-21: The first apartment. Very nice. 4 bedroom, 2 bath, balcony. We trashed it on a monthy basis. On one occation a shower curtain (with rod still attached) was used as a blanket. Graduation Rate: 25%
21-22: The second apartment. A dump. We managed to keep it in reasonable condition, although a suspicious amount of space was dedicated to car part storage. We managed to hook up a 6.1 surround sound system, and that's what really counts.
22: Atrium. Not a bad place to spend my final semester. Never used the pool or hot tub, though. Drinks were consumed and video games were played.
22-23: Back to Deerfield, IL. Drinks were consumed that should not be spoken of again, but seem to be quite frequently.
23-Present: Good ol' 121 Brookwood. We'll paint the kitchen some day, I swear.

5) Jobs I have had:
(High School Jobs)
Deerspring Pool:
Concession Stand: Terrible, Terrible, Terrible! Made me swear to never work food services again.
Cashier: Much better. Mostly reading and pushing a single button over and over again
Blockbuster:
CSR: A very fun job. They might not have paid much, but the people were good company and the 'management' weren't much older than me. Plus five movies a week.
Manager: Not much fun. I was transferred to another store. Instead of high school and community college folk, most of the people were "lifers." I knew I was going to school in a couple months, so it didn't really matter.
(School Jobs)
Computer Lab Monitor: Sitting in a chair, playing Earthbound. One time I had to order some paper. I did that for a year. It seemed after that, they decided they didn't need anyone to monitor computers. They did a fairly good job of monitoring themselves.
Help Desk: In retrospective, this was probably the best decision I made. It gave me the experience necessary to get my current job, and I met Melissa.

(Post-College Professional)
Hospira:
Contractor: For about 10 months, I worked as a contractor. No benefits, no security, but at least I was working and well paid.
Associate analyst: Got hired! Benefits, "security," ect.
Analyst: An associate is apparently not a good thing to be. Just got this one a couple months back. No real changes yet, but at least I can't make the "I'm just an associate" excuse any more.

So who the hell am I supposed to tag now?

Hopefully this will get me back into writing here.

Dinner Time!

After a big Dear Franks lunch, Sabros and I got hungry around 9PM. Good thing we had gone shopping earlier!
Based on the recipe from http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2003911
"For the "Green Lightning Shrimp." Chop 1 cup cilantro, 4-8 Jalapeno's, 1 bunch scallions. Throw into Food Processor along with 3 cloves chopped garlic, 1-1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cumin, 1 teaspoon ground pepper. Add 1/2 cup each olive oil and fresh lime juice. Pray to god that the blender can handle the load."

Very good! Posted by Picasa

GUTScon

Got back from GUTScon. Much fun was had. It was nice to put faces to those nasally Ventrillo voices. I look forward to having more fun GUTSian adventures in the future.

Had a good time with Melissa this weekend. (Is there ever an exception to this?)
